I love your packing plan. I packed for 9 days in California (north and south) for spring break in a carryon and felt pretty smug, but couldn't have done it without travel bags, the kind that suck out all the air. I never know what to do about the shoes... especially if "walking/light hiking" is part of the schedule.

Thank you, all, for your kind words and excellent packing suggestions! Keep the ideas coming! I am heading out of town AGAIN this weekend for a conference, so I'll be trying a different round of items for a professional environment.

Abbie, yes, the boots are Steve Madden's Iriss model, and I'm sorry you're having trouble finding your size on eBay! I actually was first looking for his Intyce style, but then found Iriss -- which looks very similar -- instead. So perhaps try looking for the Intyce boot, see if you like it, and see if you can eBay that one? Good luck!

Way to go!

I once went to New York City in March for 4 days on a carry on. I felt pretty cool.

Like you, I took two pair of shoes: boots and flats. I wore the boots on the plane as well.

I can't remember what else I packed, but I made sure to have a cozy scarf, hat and gloves to stay warm.

I am totally a google-it kinda girl. I just got back from a trip myself and I always have to have things listed out ahead of time, along with potential outfits. I sometimes even go as far as trying on my clothes before I pack them to make sure they're what I will wear.

I also pack extras, mostly things that I can interchange in case of change of weather, plans, or heart.

:0]

By the way, just stumbled on this blog today and it's awesome! Definitely coming back.
P.S.: Wanted to mention great post!
