Sources:

  • Purple cardi – H&M
  • Brown knit dress – Ross, old school
  • Purple tie – taken from another shirt
  • Purple tights – BR, remixed
  • Tan wedges – Gap Outlet, remixed
  • Pearl cluster – assorted pearl earrings

Thanks to my burgeoning belly, the dress that I originally wanted to wear today ended up being too short for a teaching day. Perhaps in an effort to over-compensate for that initial, abbreviated hem I ended up in an outfit that makes me feel a little vintage school-marmy.

Even though only the tights and shoes in this look have been documented in previous outfits on this blog, the whole ensemble is really a remix of ideas. I wore earrings as mini brooches about a month ago and I mixed purple and brown last week. I like the thought of revising outfits, much like all three of us spend time revising papers. Sometimes an idea comes out fine the first time around, but revisiting an inspiration or color palette or favorite accessory gives me the opportunity to try it again and make a look even more interesting.

I love the idea of using a cluster of earrings as brooches. It provides the perfect solution of what to do with all of these pretty earrings that seemed to have lost their other half!

Gosh, me too. Earrings as brooches = brilliant.

Okay, me three – love the “mini brooches”! And you don’t look school-marmy in the least!

  4. Loves the purple cardigan!!!! Great choice!

Thank you, all! S. got me thinking about brooches, but I’m taking baby steps and starting out with these little guys first.
